Why it's important to drink a lot of water in pregnancy:

During your pregnancy your amniotic fluid is replenished every three hours. That means 8 times a day your baby's amniotic fluid is cycled through your own system, which gives your body the amount of fluid they need to help ensure that your own organs, such as your liver, kidney, etc, will be able to handle growing two people at once. Your baby will also benefit from your water consumption by receiving enough fluid to maintain good health and room to grow by adequate amniotic fluid each day.

Water is also a catalyst for all biological functions and helps carry nutrients through your blood to your baby. It helps to prevent bladder infections because your urine will be diluted and reduce your risk of bladder infection.

With our diet the minimum amount of water consumption is 10 eight-ounce glasses of water a day. If you exercise or perspire a lot (such as summer pregnancies) you may need to drink even more. Your water will be an addition to any other liquids (such as milk and juice) and helps make certain that you are not dehydrated, which has been linked directly to constipation, pre-term birthing waves, and can cause skin to become very dry and irritated.

The bottom line: It's important to drink A LOT of water! Just remember ATLEAST 8 cups of water a day!
