Brewers Diet at a glance:
A few people have asked me what the Brewers Diet constitutes, so here is a quick summary of what I am trying to keep in my diet on a daily basis.
4 servings of milk (1 cup each): Milk is a good source of protein and calcium, both of which are great for your baby's teeth, bones, and brain.
2 eggs: Eggs provide almost all of the nutrients you need for good health, including quality protein, and are known to help keep the amniotic membranes nice and strong.
2-6 servings of protein (depending on size):
2 servings of fresh, dark green, leafy vegetables: broccoli, brussel sprouts, spinach, romaine lettuce... The darker the green, the more vitamins, minerals, and folic acid they contain.
5 servings of whole grain: These foods provide you with energy and vitamin B for the baby's growth.
2 servings vitamin C foods: Helps to fight against infection and keeps you and your uterus healthy and strong
5 servings of fats and oils: Helps you to have more stretchable skin during pregnancy and absorb vitamins easier.
1 serving vitamin A food: These yellow and orange colored fruits and vegetables help to prevent bladder and kidney infections.
Drink to Thirst: 80 oz a day.
Salt your foods to taste: Salt is an essential nutrient and will help you to keep enough fluid in your system so that you can make the 50% extra blood needed to ensure your baby's health and your own saftey at birth. Many foods already have salt in them, so you don't have to add much, but do not cut salt out of your diet.
