So we are officially in week 17. Last week we had our second ultrasound to check up on things and make certain that everything was going well, and tomorrow we are scheduled for another ultrasound that is supposed to be a little more thorough. We will also finally be seeing the doctor, so hopefully we'll get all the testing and other procedures over and done with so we can move on and make sure that everything is okay with the pregnancy. This time around feels so different than the first one. I guess I just remember how annoying doctors appointments were - when you wait around for 40 minutes, see the doctor for a second while he checks the heart beat, and then he opens the door and says they'll see you next month. I had hoped that I would be able to find a Dr. that wouldn't be so busy and would actually take the time to sit and talk and discuss pregnancy with me and answer my questions, but there really aren't a lot of options here unfortunately. The other doctors that my friends recommended are either forty minutes away, which really wouldn't work out with our schedule with one car and needing someone to watch our little guy, or I really haven't been that impressed.
In case you were wondering where you're supposed to be at when you are 17 weeks pregnant our baby is supposed to be anywhere from 4.4 to 4.8 inches and weighs almost 3 1/2 ounces. (We all know that isn't the case with our pregnancy, since at 16 weeks they said our baby was already 5 ounces. We have big babies apparently!) Our baby would fit snugly in the palm on our hand, and is about the size of a small pomegranate.
Our baby is also very mobile now. The cartilage making up the skeleton in our baby's body is turning into bone. I've been feeling the baby move a little more, so that's exciting. The belly has definitely continued to grow. :)
We have another appointment tomorrow, as I said, so we'll see if they give us any official information. Otherwise we will just stick with what we have. :)
